Illegal RO plant sealed in Karachi water theft crackdown

KWSC police said they uncovered and sealed an illegal RO plant in Karachi’s North Nazimabad during a water theft crackdown. Two people were arrested and a case was registered under the KWSC Act.

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) police said they uncovered an illegal reverse osmosis (RO) plant in North Nazimabad during a crackdown on water theft.

According to KWSC officials, the operation was carried out at D-71, Block B in North Nazimabad, where authorities found an RO plant allegedly operating through unauthorised extraction of subsoil water.

Officials said the extracted water was being filtered and then sold for commercial purposes. Following the raid, the facility was sealed at the site.

KWSC officials further said that two people were arrested during the action. They added that a case had been registered against the suspects under the KWSC Act at the relevant police station.

Action taken during raid

The raid was part of action by KWSC police against water theft, according to officials. They said the North Nazimabad facility had been using subsoil water without authorisation and was involved in commercial sale of the filtered water.

Authorities said the plant was sealed immediately after it was detected. The two detained individuals were taken into custody during the operation, while legal proceedings were initiated through registration of a case under the KWSC Act.

No further details about the identity of the arrested persons or the scale of the operation were provided in the official account cited by KWSC officials.

The development adds to ongoing enforcement measures targeting illegal water extraction and unauthorised commercial use of water in Karachi, as described by the corporation’s officials in connection with the raid.

KWSC officials maintained that the plant was functioning through unauthorised subsoil water extraction and that the water was being stolen before being processed and sold.

The case has been lodged at the relevant police station, while the sealed facility remains subject to legal action under the applicable law, according to the officials.
