A bank cash van was looted of over Rs80 million in Bannu, while a Rescue 1122 worker went missing and a ration vehicle for security forces was hijacked in Jani Khel. The incidents have heightened concerns over law and order in the district.
BANNU: A string of serious incidents in Bannu and nearby areas has intensified concerns over deteriorating law and order in the district, according to details reported on Tuesday.
Among the latest incidents, armed robbers intercepted a bank cash van near Sparka Chowk in the Domel area on Tuesday evening and escaped with more than Rs80 million in cash. According to sources, the assailants also took four rifles and a pistol from the security personnel assigned to the vehicle.
The report said the bank staff and the cash van remained unharmed during the robbery.
Cash van looted in Domel
The robbery took place near Sparka Chowk, where armed suspects stopped the vehicle and carried out the heist before fleeing with the cash. The amount taken was reported to be over Rs80 million.
In addition to the cash, the attackers seized weapons carried by the security team escorting the van. These included four rifles and one pistol, according to the report.
No injuries to bank employees were reported in the incident, and the vehicle itself was not damaged, the report added.
Rescue 1122 worker goes missing
In a separate development, Saqibur Rehman, an Emergency Medical Technician with Rescue 1122 Bannu, has gone missing under what the report described as mysterious circumstances.
According to sources, he is a resident of the Mambati Barakzai area and has been missing since around 4pm on Tuesday. Family members said his mobile phone has remained switched off and repeated efforts to contact him have not succeeded.
The report said the authorities had been informed about his disappearance, while local residents were also taking part in efforts to trace him. However, no confirmed information about his whereabouts was available at the time the report was filed.
Ration vehicle hijacked in Jani Khel
Another incident reported from the district involved unidentified assailants who hijacked a vehicle carrying ration supplies for security forces in the Jani Khel area.
The incident was listed among a series of attacks that have contributed to a growing sense of fear in Bannu and its surrounding localities.
The latest developments come amid what the report described as a deepening atmosphere of fear and lawlessness across the district following multiple brazen attacks.
