A woman employee was shot dead inside a NADRA office in Gujrat on Monday after her husband allegedly opened fire during an argument and then died by suicide, police said. An FIR filed on the complaint of the couple’s son says they had faced domestic disputes for eight to ten years.
GUJRAT: A woman employee was shot dead inside a National Database and Registration Authority office in Gujrat on Monday after her husband allegedly opened fire during an argument and then took his own life, police said.
Police identified the deceased woman as Amber, 42, a resident of Mohalla Dara Balochan, who worked at the NADRA office. Her husband was identified as 45-year-old Bilal Saqib.
According to police, Bilal had dropped Amber at the office in the morning. An argument later broke out between the couple on the upper floor of the building. Police said Bilal allegedly used a pistol to shoot his wife, killing her at the scene, before turning the weapon on himself.
The shooting caused panic among employees and visitors present at the government office, with the incident also raising concerns about security arrangements at the facility.
Police action and investigation
Police from Civil Lines police station shifted both bodies to hospital for post-mortem examination and began an investigation into the incident.
A case has been registered under a first information report on the complaint of the couple’s son, Mansoor Bilal.
According to the FIR, the husband and wife had been facing domestic disputes for the past eight to ten years.
The incident took place inside a public office during working hours, leaving staff and visitors shaken after the gunfire. Police have formally launched proceedings following the registration of the case and the transfer of the bodies for medico-legal requirements.
Authorities have not publicly shared further details beyond the initial police account and the contents of the FIR cited in the case. The reported sequence, according to police, is that the couple argued inside the office building before the husband allegedly shot Amber and then died by suicide.
The case has drawn attention because the violence occurred inside a government office where members of the public and employees were present at the time. Police said the matter is under investigation.
