A heavy police presence, including women personnel, was deployed around the Sindh Assembly and the press club, with additional units stationed there carrying batons and tear gas. Prison vans and water cannons were also placed in the area as part of the security plan.

The restrictions affected office-goers and residents of nearby localities, who faced long traffic jams and diversions during the day. The protest drew a large number of government employees, including members of the All Pakistan Clerks Association, the Primary School Teachers Association and other groups, who gathered outside the Karachi Press Club and held a sit-in for several hours.

Employee leaders press demands

The demonstration was led by representatives of several employee bodies, including Sikandar Jatoi and Zulfiqar Shah, who called for salary raises in view of rising inflation. During the protest, a delegation of association leaders went to the commissioner’s office for talks with government officials.

After the negotiations, the delegation returned to the protest venue and later tried to move towards the Sindh Assembly. Police, however, stopped the march because of the road blockades, after which the protesters held another sit-in on the road.

Senior police officers, including SSP South Mahzoor Ali and SSP Keamari Sanghar Malik, arrived at the site with additional personnel and held discussions with the protesters as the demonstration continued.

Government employees protested in Karachi on Wednesday against a pay freeze and sought salary increases in line with inflation.
