They said they had already left around 82 kanals of land in the reservoir area and that nearly half of the dam-affected families had settled on 87 kanals of ancestral land in the village.

The residents said they had started building houses and livestock sheds there, but had now received what they described as red notices ordering them to leave the land or face an operation. They further alleged that they were told a large housing society was planned for the area.

“We were displaced from our original villages due to the dam project and moved to our ancestral land in Malikpur Azizal. Now we are being asked to leave this place as well. We do not know where we are supposed to go,” one of the victims described the uncertainty facing the families and said.

The residents maintained that the Assistant Commissioner (Saddar), Rawalpindi, had earlier carried out demarcation of the land and that revenue records officially showed the land belonged to them. They said the revenue department had also issued them ownership and demarcation certificates.

The affected families said any move to remove them from the land or acquire it by force would be unjust. They appealed to the prime minister, the chief of army staff and the Punjab chief minister to intervene in the matter and ensure justice.

The residents also warned that another displacement would leave dozens of families without a place to settle, despite what they said was their earlier sacrifice of land for construction of the Daducha Dam project.

Families affected by the Daducha Dam project say they have been served notices to vacate ancestral land in Malikpur Azizal after already losing land to the reservoir.
