In a statement, a spokesperson said the move comes amid rising electricity demand, particularly between 5:00 PM and 1:00 AM. To manage the load, outages will be carried out during this period, with power distribution companies directed to inform consumers in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials said early closure of commercial markets at federal and provincial levels could help reduce electricity demand and ease pressure on the system, potentially preventing a sharp increase in tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The spokesperson added that reduced reliance on expensive fuels and improved use of low-cost energy sources have helped stabilize electricity generation. Efforts have also been made to cut transmission and administrative losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between July and February, consumers were provided relief of Rs46 billion, while tariffs were reduced by 71 paisas per unit despite rising fuel costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities said 80 MMCFD of local gas has been supplied to power plants, helping avoid an increase of 80 paisas per unit and preventing further load management. Current measures aim to avert a potential rise of around Rs3 per unit in electricity prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, officials warned that even with limited use of furnace oil, consumers may still face an increase of about Rs1.5 per unit, which could have reached Rs5 to Rs6 per unit without timely intervention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
