ISLAMABAD: A coach of the Tezgam Express derailed near the Sihala Railway Crossing on Monday morning while the train was travelling from Rawalpindi, according to railway-related details reported by Express Tribune.
The incident took place at about 8:25am and caused panic among passengers, who began screaming and reciting prayers after hearing a loud bang. The crossing falls within the Islamabad area and is known for heavy traffic congestion.
Trains are required to slow down to between 10 and 20 kilometres per hour while passing through the area because of safety concerns. The reduced speed helped avert a major disaster.
Railway officials and engineers reached the site and separated the affected coach from the train. After arrangements were completed, the Tezgam Express resumed its journey at 9:28am.
