Two siblings die, child injured in warehouse fire

Two young siblings were killed and another child was critically injured after a fire broke out in a scrap warehouse in Gujjarpura’s China Scheme area. Officials said combustible material caused the blaze to spread quickly.

LAHORE: Two young siblings died and another child was critically injured after a fire broke out in a scrap warehouse in the China Scheme area of Gujjarpura on Monday, according to Rescue 1122 sources.

Officials said the blaze started suddenly in a junkyard warehouse and spread rapidly because of the highly combustible material stored inside the premises. The fire engulfed parts of the structure before firefighters managed to bring it under control.

According to officials, three children were trapped inside the seven- to eight-marla warehouse at the time of the incident. Their parents were not present when the fire broke out.

The two children who lost their lives were identified in the source report only as young siblings. Rescue 1122 sources said a third child sustained critical injuries in the incident.

Fire spread quickly in scrap storage area

The warehouse contained junk and other flammable material, which officials said contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Firefighters responded to the scene and eventually succeeded in controlling the blaze after parts of the structure had already been affected.

The incident took place in Gujjarpura’s China Scheme area, where the warehouse measured around seven to eight marlas, according to officials cited in the report.

Rescue 1122 sources said the children were trapped inside as the fire intensified. By the time the blaze was controlled, two of them had died, while the third had suffered critical injuries.

No further details about the cause of the fire, the identities or ages of the children, or the condition of the injured child beyond being critical were provided in the source report.

The incident adds to concerns surrounding fire hazards in places where combustible material is stored. In this case, officials specifically said the presence of highly flammable scrap allowed the fire to spread quickly through parts of the warehouse before emergency responders contained it.

Authorities have not provided additional information beyond what Rescue 1122 sources and officials stated in the report about how the fire started or the circumstances in which the children were inside the warehouse while their parents were away.
