Several armed robbery incidents were reported in areas near Lahore, including raids on homes and attacks on traders, commuters and a labourer. Police registered separate cases, but no arrests had been made.
LAHORE: Armed robbers struck in several areas near Lahore, targeting households, traders, commuters and a labourer in separate incidents, with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables worth millions of rupees taken, according to police sources.
In one of the reported incidents, a group of eight armed men entered a locality in Gajjan Singh Wala and held four families hostage after climbing over the walls of their homes. Police sources said the suspects looted cash and valuables from more than one house during the raid.
Among the losses reported, one household was deprived of Rs200,000, while another lost gold jewellery valued at nearly Rs10 million along with cash and other belongings. The robbers also took mobile phones and cash from other victims before escaping from the area.
In another incident reported near Attari Karam Singh, three armed robbers stopped two men travelling on a motorcycle and took their mobile phones and Rs50,000 in cash. The victims were said to be on their way to attend a wedding when they were intercepted.
Separately, in Kanganpur, two armed men allegedly attacked a labourer and snatched goods worth Rs190,000 from agricultural land near Baray Wala Khoh.
Another robbery was reported near Araiyan Wala, where two traders were subjected to violence and threats before being deprived of more than Rs833,000 in cash.
Police cases registered
Police have registered separate cases on the complaints of the affected persons in each of the incidents. However, no arrests had been made so far, according to the report.
The incidents have added to concerns among local residents, who have called on the Punjab government to respond. Residents urged the chief minister and the inspector general of police to take immediate steps to control what they described as rising crime and to improve public safety.
The reported robberies involved a range of victims, from families inside their homes to people travelling for personal events and individuals working in rural areas. Police sources said investigations were under way in the separately registered cases.
The incidents were reported from different localities near Lahore, including Gajjan Singh Wala, Attari Karam Singh, Kanganpur and Araiyan Wala, indicating a series of armed robberies affecting both residential and roadside settings.
