Six more killed in traffic accidents

Six people lost their lives in traffic accidents in Karachi on Tuesday. Two young men were killed when a speeding coaster hit their motorcycle on the National Highway within the limits of Shah Latif Town police station. The bodies were taken to Jinnah postgraduate Medical Centre, where they were identified as 25-year-old Lal Chand and 27-year-old Gopi.

Police said the victims were friends and worked as sanitation staff at a private factory. They were residents of Quaidabad and originally hailed from Tando Allahyar. Lal Chand was unmarried, while Gopi was a father of two daughters.

The coaster driver fled the scene after the accident, while police have taken the vehicle into custody and launched a search for the suspect. In the jurisdiction of theDarakhshan police station in Defence Phase V, a man identified as Bakht Amin, who had been critically injured in a traffic accident on Monday, succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Tuesday.

Earlier, his companion, Tanveer, had died on the spot in the same accident. Police said both victims worked in Defence and were residents of Qasba Colony, Manghopir. CCTV footage of the Defence accident showed a Vigo pickup attempting a U-turn when a speeding motorcycle collided with it from behind.

The riders fell onto the road and were then hit by another vehicle coming from behind. Police have initiated investigations into both incidents. Two people were killed when a truck rammed into a rickshaw near Hamdard University on the Northern Bypass within the limits of the Manghopir police station. According to police, the victims were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they were identified as 25-year-old Imran and 26-year-old Saad.

SHO Anis-ur-Rehman said the truck driver fled the scene after the accident, while the vehicle has been impounded. He added that the truck was being used to carry containers. Police said efforts were underway to ascertain the victims’ residential details, while raids were being conducted to arrest the absconding driver.

Separately, a young motorcyclist was killed while a minor boy sustained critical injuries after a water tanker hit a motorcycle in Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi. The accident occurred while the victims were travelling from Chamra Chowrangi towards Godam Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

According to police, the deceased and injured were taken to the JPMC where the victim dead was identified as 26-year-old Bilal, son of Iqbal, while the injured boy was identified as 14-year-old Sajid, son of Abid. Police said the injured boy suffered severe injuries and lost both of his legs in the accident. The water tanker driver fled the scene after the incident, while the vehicle was impounded. Authorities have launched efforts to arrest the absconding driver.
