Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah criticised the federal government for neglecting road projects in Sindh, highlighting the incomplete Jamshoro-Sehwan road and motorway sections. He also expressed concern over regional security.
DADU: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating state of federally managed road infrastructure in the province, criticising the federal government for neglecting its road projects in Sindh.
Speaking to the media at his residence in Wahur, located in Sehwan taluka, while extending Eid greetings, the chief minister spoke at length about the infrastructure challenges plaguing the province.
CM Shah stated that “while provincial roads are in good condition, those under federal projects are in a dilapidated state.” He highlighted the case of the Jamshoro-Sehwan road, which he said has remained incomplete for nine years despite the Sindh government providing partial funding for the project as far back as 2017.
Major highways remain incomplete
The chief minister also drew attention to the condition of major highways in the province, noting that the Karachi-Hyderabad and Hyderabad-Sukkur sections of the motorway have remained incomplete. He said that travel for commuters on these roads has become extremely difficult.
The remarks underscore a growing frustration from the provincial leadership over what it perceives as the federal government’s failure to deliver on critical road projects in Sindh, even as the provincial government maintains that its own road network is in satisfactory condition.
Concerns over regional security
Apart from infrastructure issues, CM Shah also expressed concern over the security situation in the country and the broader region amid the US-Israel war with Iran. He prayed for the mercy of Almighty Allah and complete peace in the world.
The chief minister’s comments on both road infrastructure and regional security came during what was primarily an Eid greeting occasion, but the issues he raised reflect longstanding grievances the Sindh government has voiced regarding federal neglect of development projects in the province.
The Jamshoro-Sehwan road, in particular, has been a source of contention, with the provincial government having contributed funds towards the project years ago without seeing its completion. The incomplete state of the Karachi-Hyderabad and Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway sections further compounds the transportation challenges faced by commuters travelling across Sindh.
