Gas supply was reportedly suspended in multiple areas of Karachi during Iftar time, leaving many residents struggling to prepare meals for breaking their fast during Ramadan.
The disruption was reported across several localities, including Korangi, Jamshed Road, Bihar Colony, North Karachi, and Liaquatabad, along with other parts of the city.
In areas where gas was available, residents complained of unusually low pressure, saying it made cooking difficult even when supply had not been completely cut.
The outages have sparked frustration because the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had earlier assured consumers of uninterrupted supply during key Ramadan hours.
Both SSGC and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had announced a Ramadan schedule stating gas would remain available from 3:00am to 10:30pm throughout the month.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the government will ensure the announced schedule is followed nationwide, adding that arrangements have been put in place to maintain adequate pressure during Sahar and Iftar.
On the electricity side, Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari has announced there will be no load-shedding during Sahar and Iftar, directing the Power Division to ensure uninterrupted supply during those hours even in high-loss areas. Any load management, he said, will be carried out outside the designated windows.
K-Electric, Karachi’s sole power distributor, has also issued a Ramadan schedule and stated that the city will not face load-shedding during Sahar and Iftar timings to provide relief to residents.
