PESHAWAR: Police in Khyber district said they removed a French national from a house in Bara after receiving intelligence that she was allegedly facing domestic violence.

The woman was identified as 54-year-old Sylvie Yasmina, a French citizen. Police took her into protective custody during the raid. Initial findings by investigators, according to police, showed that she had married a Pakistani man and had been living in Bara since 2014.

Police said Yasmina told investigators that her husband had subjected her to repeated mistreatment and had not allowed her to leave the house. The couple has five children, including one child who is deaf and mute.

Khyber Police said Yasmina and four of her children were moved to the Women Police Station in Peshawar for protection and further legal process. Police said she has expressed a strong wish to return to France, while an investigation is continuing and legal action is being pursued against the accused.
