WASA says it has completed preparations for the monsoon season in Lahore, with four major ground storage tanks due by June 30. The agency also says desilting, machinery deployment and emergency camp arrangements are in place.
LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency says it has completed broad preparations for the coming monsoon season, with several drainage-related works close to completion, according to Managing Director WASA Saqib Raza.
Speaking to media representatives, Raza said work on four major ground storage tanks was moving ahead quickly and was scheduled to be finished by June 30. He said the projects were intended to strengthen the city’s ability to handle rainwater during the monsoon, which is expected to begin in July.
Raza said WASA had also carried out extensive desilting of roadside drains across the city and put in place temporary measures at locations identified as vulnerable to water accumulation. He added that the agency had rehabilitated and deployed all required machinery, while disposal stations were fully functional.
Referring to the expected impact of the new infrastructure, Raza said WASA believed the city would be better prepared once the storage tanks were completed.
He further said monsoon emergency camps had been set up in different parts of the city and staff had been assigned duties to ensure a quick response in case of heavy rainfall.
