Judge’s residence loses power after cable theft

A judge’s residence in Islamabad’s G-10 remained without electricity overnight after thieves allegedly stole its power cable. Police have registered a theft case against unidentified suspects.

ISLAMABAD: The residence of the Islamabad district and sessions judge east was left without electricity for the night after thieves allegedly removed the power cable supplying the house in G-10, police said.

The case was registered under Section 379 of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint filed by Zahid Mehmood, who police said worked as a cook at the judge’s house. The complaint said the power supply to the residence went out at about 2am on June 10. The occupants waited for electricity to return, but later found in the morning that the external cable had been stolen.

Only the judge’s house lost power at that time, while electricity remained available in the rest of the street and surrounding area. The judge, his son and a senior official were staying at the residence, while two of the judge’s children were abroad. A security guard and the cook were also living there.

Iesco was later informed about the outage and sent a team to the house. A replacement cable was installed and power was restored after 12 hours. Police registered the case against unidentified suspects and investigation proceedings were initiated.
