Two workers die while cleaning sewer in Dera Ismail Khan

Two labourers died after losing consciousness while cleaning a sewer in Dera Ismail Khan’s Garaha Bakhsha area, Rescue 1122 officials said. One victim was identified as Mohammad Saleem, while the second had not been identified immediately.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two labourers died after they lost consciousness while cleaning a sewer in the Garaha Bakhsha area on Thursday, according to Rescue 1122 officials.

An emergency report issued by Rescue 1122 said the incident took place during routine sewer cleaning work. The two workers fell unconscious and collapsed inside the sewer, the report said.

Rescue teams reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident and began an operation to retrieve the workers. Officials said both men were taken out of the sewer, but they were found dead at the scene.

Rescue 1122 officials said the deaths were suspected to have been caused by oxygen deficiency inside the sewer.

Victims and official response

One of the deceased was identified as Mohammad Saleem, son of Ramzan. Rescue officials said he was a resident of Mohallah Khudrianwala in Tank and was currently living in Basti Darkhana Wali.

The identity of the second victim could not be immediately confirmed, according to the officials.

After legal formalities were completed, the bodies were shifted to a hospital. Officials said further proceedings were under way.

The Rescue 1122 emergency report described the incident as occurring during routine cleaning activity in the sewer line in Garaha Bakhsha. The response team reached the location after being informed and carried out the recovery operation, it added.

Officials did not provide any additional details beyond the information contained in the emergency report. The cause of death was described as suspected oxygen deficiency, while the second worker had yet to be identified at the time the report was issued.

The bodies were moved to hospital after the required legal process, and authorities said the case was being processed further.
